The festival drew the wrath of Israeli Minister of Culture Miri Regev

Under controversy with the Israeli Minister of Culture, the 18th edition of the Israeli Film Festival in Paris opens on Tuesday.

Between March 13th and 20th, 2018, 9 feature films, 7 short films, 5 documentaries will be proposed to the Parisian public.

Two classics of Israeli cinema will be projected on the big screen: "state of siege" (1975) and "rage and glory" (1984).

Due to the huge success of the Fauda series, Episodes 1 and 2 of Season 2 will also be included in the program. One category will be reserved for children.

Following media pressure, the Israeli embassy in France gave up on March 6 to boycott the opening ceremony of the Festival, stating that the cultural attaché would be present.

Israeli diplomacy announced last February that Israel's ambassador to France, Aliza Ben-Nun, would not attend the opening night of the festival because of the controversial film "Foxtrot", following the call for a boycott by the Israeli Minister of Culture, Miri Regev.

The latter had also lobbied the Foreign Ministry to withdraw its financial support from the Israeli Film Festival, after discovering that the film "Foxtrot" would be screened there.

Israel should not "support a festival that presents films that slander us around the world and contain false content about IDF soldiers and its citizens," Regev said. Haaretz.

Although she says she has not seen the film, the minister was one of the first figures to protest against the feature film.

"Before we had the BDS against us, and now I feel that it comes from my own camp," reacted the president of the Israeli film festival in Paris, Hélène Schoumann, to i24NEWS.

Israeli director Samuel Maoz won the Grand Jury Prize last September for his film "Foxtrot" at the 74th Venice Film Festival.
